PhD Scholarship : Injury Division The George Institute
The George Institute for International Health is a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to the prevention and management of non-communicable diseases and injury worldwide. The George Institute comprises several research divisions, with numerous large-scale international and regional projects.
The Injury Division has a major research focus on the prevention of road traffic injury, reflecting the growing global burden of transport-related mortality and morbidity.
This scholarship will provide support for 3 years on a full-time basis, commencing Semester 1, 2009.
The project is a large scale case-control study which is being conducted in NSW, QLD and WA. It aims to determine the role of key risk factors in heavy vehicle crashes, and to identify strategies to improve safety within the heavy vehicle industry. The PhD may be completed in epidemiology, psychology or health economics, depending on the interest of the student.
Applicants should hold a master’s degree or a bachelor’s degree with 1st or upper 2nd class honours. A master’s level qualification in public health, and/or experience or training in epidemiology, would be an advantage. Applicants must be Australian citizens, Australian permanent residents, or New Zealand citizens. The scholarship stipend is $25,627 per annum (tax exempt if only source of income).
