Research Associate, Global HealthPhD Studentship The Role of Social Enterprise in Reducing Long Term Unemployment  

(funded for three years)

£6,250 p.a.

Applications are invited for a three year PhD bursary studying the role of social enterprise in reducing long term unemployment.

The proposed project will study current and planned social enterprise schemes aimed at reducing long term youth unemployment.

The project has four aims, as follows:

  • To evaluate the economic and individual impact of social enterprise schemes on youth unemployment (measurement of economic factors)
  • To evaluate the impact of social enterprise schemes on individual self-efficacy (measurement of psychological factors)
  • To identify relationships between self-efficacy and economic impacts
  • To influence policy and funding decisions at a local and regional level

The bursary is part of a research project that is jointly supervised by research staff from Northampton Business School (Professor Simon Denny) and the School of Social Sciences (Dr Gillian Penny).

To apply for the bursary applicants must have a first degree (first or upper second) or a Masters degree in a relevant subject. Research experience at post graduate level will be an advantage but full training will be provided to the successful applicant. The successful candidate will be highly motivated, have excellent written and verbal communication skills, and be able to relate to people in both academic and non-academic settings.
