Scholarship for International Students

Two Postdoctoral Research Associates, University of Manchester

UK. Manchester Interdisciplinary Biocentre

We seek enthusiastic and highly capable researchers for two three-year BBSRC-funded postdoctoral positions that are now available in the Manchester Interdisciplinary Biocentre to work with Professor John McCarthy.

The work at the University of Manchester will be carried out in the newly opened Manchester Interdisciplinary Biocentre (http://www.mib.ac.uk) which, with support from the Wellcome Trust and the Wolfson Foundation has been constructed to accommodate a range of research at the interface between physical sciences and biology.

  • Postdoctoral Research Associate

    Closing date: 27/06/2008
    Reference: EPS/80552

Interactions between the component steps of the protein synthesis pathway.

The candidate sought here should have appropriate experience in biochemical experimentation and/or genetics in yeast, and have at least an interest in studying protein synthesis in eukaryotes with a view to elucidating the contributions of the respective steps in the process to rate control and regulation. Some systems biology approaches will be used in the analysis of the data obtained via this strategy. This represents an ideal opportunity for an ambitious young researcher to become involved in a major programme of quantitative study of the eukaryotic translation machinery.

Heterogeneity and dynamics of the eukaryotic translation machinery.

The candidate sought here should have appropriate experience in biochemical and/or biophysical experimentation in yeast, and have at least an interest in studying the composition of the eukaryotic translation machinery as a function of changing growth conditions. This collaborative project (involving a second PDRA in the lab of Prof. Rob Beynon, Liverpool University) will involve the application of a range of biochemical/biophysical methods, including advanced separation and mass spectrometry techniques.
