Postdoctoral Fellow for Participatory Research, Technology Up-scaling, and Capacity Enhancement
Philippines. IRRI is seeking a postdoctoral fellow to contribute to the socioeconomic component of participatory research, technology up-scaling, and capacity enhancement in support of a regional abiotic stress project on rice production in South Asia.
Responsibilities
a) Provide technical and logistical support in the planning, design, coordination, and implementation of farmer participatory research and capacity enhancement strategies of the project with national agricultural research and extension systems (NARES), Non-governmental Organizations (NGOs), and the private sector in all sites of the project in South Asia; b) Conduct socioeconomic research with inclusion of gender concerns related to participatory varietal selection (PVS) and crop and natural resource management (CNRM) in stress-prone rainfed environments; c) Help facilitate up-scaling strategies for technologies identified for dissemination to the NARES and the farmer-beneficiaries.
Qualifications
1) PhD in rural sociology/agricultural economics or related discipline; 2) Practical experience in participatory action research, technology development, evaluation and monitoring, and capacity enhancement strategies; 3) Experience in working with NARES, NGOs, and the private sector in South Asia and proven ability to perform in a multidisciplinary and multicultural environment; 4) Strong organizational and communication (written and oral) skills with the ability to handle logistics; and 5) Excellent interpersonal skills.
