Doctoral Research Fellowship WITHIN THE FIELD INTERACTION IN MEETINGS

The PhD scholarship is awarded a candidate planning to undertake a research project on interaction in meetings. The project will contribute to a larger research project on meeting interaction led by Associate Professor Jan Svennevig. The project favours applications using a qualitative, microanalytic methodology, such as Conversation Analysis, Interactional Sociolinguistics or the like. Relevant data sources are recordings of authentic meetings in various private or public sectors, such as businesses, public administration or non-profit organizations.

The successful candidate is expected to affiliate with the existing research milieu or network and to contribute to the further development of this.

The position is available for a period of three years and is affiliated with the Department of Linguistics and Scandinavian Studies.

If the applicant has worked as a doctoral research fellow prior to being hired at the Faculty of Humanities, that period of time will be deducted from the allotted 3 year period. Candidates who are accepted must participate in the Faculty of Humanities’ researcher education programme (cf. regulations and supplementary provisions for the faculty’s researcher education) and must also engage in the designated research activities on a 100 percent basis. The designated aim of the project is to complete a doctoral dissertation to be defended at a public disputation for the Ph.D.-degree.

Requirements:

· A Norwegian 5 year Master degree, or equivalent, in the social sciences or humanities.

In assessing the applications, special emphasis will be placed on the quality of the project description and on the assumed academic and personal ability on the part of the candidates to complete the dissertation within the given time frame. The short-listed candidates may be called for an interview at the University of Oslo.

The successful candidate is expected to start the doctoral research fellowship by January 1st 2009.
