Scholarships - Academic Year 2008/9, University of KENT  

The University of Kent at Brussels invites applications for two full time doctoral research scholarships commencing September 2008 and six MA scholarships for the academic year 2008/9.


PhD Scholarships


Funding for two doctoral research scholarships will be available for one year in the first instance, extended to a maximum of three years, based on satisfactory progress. Successful candidates will be registered as full-time students of the University of Kent; registered initially for the MPhil they will be expected to transfer/upgrade to the PhD within 18 months of registration.


Candidates will receive a maintenance grant of €9000 p.a. and tuition fees (€13,690 in 2008/09). As part of their programme of study, scholarship holders will normally be expected to teach a maximum of 6 hours per week in term time, at the direction of the Dean. Candidates will be subject to an annual review of progress and performance in both research and teaching and will be expected to perform at a satisfactory level in both areas to ensure renewal of their award.


Successful applicants will pursue a thesis topic in an area of research strength of the school. We particularly welcome research proposals in European Public Policy, International Relations, International Conflict Analysis, International Political Economy, and Political Strategy and Communication. Applicants should normally have obtained, or be about to obtain a relevant Master’s degree at merit or distinction level. In addition to making an application to study for an MPhil/PhD, applicants are required to submit a research proposal, CV and covering letter. Applicants should also ensure that two academic references are submitted by the closing date of 16 June 2008. These scholarships are open to students of all nationalities.

UKB must receive your scholarship application no later than 17h00 CET on 16 June 2008.

MA Scholarships


Four MA scholarships are available to students starting in September 2008 and two MA scholarships to those starting in January 2009. Successful candidates will be registered at the University of Kent as full time students on one of the five politics programmes offered at UKB (listed below) and will receive payment to cover 50% of their tuition fees (€6845 in 2008/9). As such, the university must receive the candidate’s complete application to the program of their choice, together with supporting documents, no later than the closing date of 16 June 2008. These scholarships are open to students of all nationalities.

MA scholarships are valid for the following programmes:

MA in International Relations

MA in International Conflict Analysis

MA in International Political Economy

MA in European Public Policy

MA in Political Strategy and Communication

UKB must receive your scholarship application no later than 17h00 CET on the closing date of 16 June 2008 or 1 October 2008 (for January 2009 applicants). Applicants should normally have obtained, or be about to obtain, a relevant undergraduate degree at least at First or Upper Second Class Honours level or equivalent.
