Postdoc in molecular biology or genetics
Job description
The post-doc should have experience with most common molecular biological techniques: experience with small RNA molecules or experience with cardiovascular research is helpful, but certainly not required: candidates from non-cardiovascular disciplines are encouraged to apply. The successful candidate will work at the Heart Failure Research Center, AMC Amsterdam where he/she will use genetic engineering in-vivo and in-vitro to understand the role of newly identified microRNAs in the heart, and will translate some of these findings to human genetic studies.

We seek a post-doctoral fellow who has obtained or shortly will obtain his/her PhD in the field of molecular biology or genetics.

Heart failure is a growing health problem. After initial impressive advancements in the therapy of heart failure, the number of novel possibilities to clinically treat this life-threatening disease is lagging behind. A major challenge is to translate important new biological insights to clinical reality. One exciting novel area in biology is the discovery of microRNAs. This class of small RNA molecules is quickly drawing attention, also in the field of cardiac biology. A grant from the Netherlands Heart Foundation enables us to explore the potential role of microRNA mediated mechanisms in heart failure.

The Interuniversity Cardiology Institute (ICIN) is a leading institute in research into cardiovascular diseases. ICIN is an institute of the Royal Dutch Academy of Sciences. ICIN coordinates and organizes research with the eight academic hospitals in the Netherlands. ICIN employs about ninety researchers, the central office in Utrecht has seven staff.

Estimated maximum salary per month: eur 2500 - 3000
Salaryscale 10.
Maximum salary amount in Euro's a month 2558
Employment basis: Temporary for specified period
Duration of the contract: one year contract
Maximum hours per week: 38
Additional conditions of employment:
We are offering a one-year contract with a possible extension for three more years. The position is for 38 hours a week. Depending on training and work experience, the maximum gross monthly salary coming with a fulltime appointment will amount to €2.558,=, scale 10,.2, Collective Agreement for Dutch Universities (CAO-Nederlandse Universiteiten), excluding 8% holiday pay and a 6,4% year-end bonus. We offer an extensive package of fringe benefits.
