PhD Studentships in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering and Biology

A combination of university, industrial and government funding enables the newly established CSCT to offer five fully-funded PhD Studentships in Sustainable Chemical Technologies. This will be a Interdisciplinary PhD Studentships in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering and Biology
Applications are invited from candidates who have, or expect to attain, an equivalent of UK 1st or upper 2nd Class Honours degree in chemistry, chemical engineering, biology, biochemistry or biochemical engineering.

All five projects will involve supervisors from at least two disciplines and will also have an industrial co-supervisor.

  • New Routes to Depolymerisation of Lignin and Cellulose
  • Lead supervisor Dr Alexei Lapkin (Department of Chemical Engineering, a.lapkin@bath.ac.uk)

  • Catalysed Conversion of Sugars and Phenolics to Chemical Intermediates
  • Lead supervisor Dr Matthew Jones (Department of Chemistry, m.jones2@bath.ac.uk)

  • New Catalysts and Monomers for Biodegradable Polymers
  • Lead supervisor Professor Matthew Davidson (Department of Chemistry, m.g.davidson@bath.ac.uk)

  • Exploitation of Algae for Chemical Conversion of CO2
  • Lead supervisor Professor Rod Scott (Department of Biology and Biochemistry, r.j.scott@bath.ac.uk)

  • Photochemical Routes to CO2 Reduction
  • Lead supervisor Dr Frank Marken (Department of Chemistry, f.marken@bath.ac.uk)

Application procedure:
Applications forms and description of application procedures are available from the Graduate Office web site.

Applicants may be invited for a panel interview after receipt of all the necessary documents. Applicants must be UK or EU nationals to be eligible for studentships. Non-EU students are free to apply if they wish to be self funded.

Studentships will be allocated as soon as possible and no later than 1st October 2008. Final closing date for applications is 27th June 2008.
